oops, i did it again…

sorry to steal a phrase from brittney… but i did. i did it again. i caught myself using a southern colloqualism. the slang of the south, if you will. that’s how i know it’s time for a vacation. i take inventory of my speech, and when that good ol’ southern draw starts affecting my speech patterns, i know it’s time to get out of dodge for a few days. i owe the recent trip to new york to the simple southern pronunciation of a word. it all starts with a dropped consonant at the end of a word. then “boil” has one syllable and i start contracting “you all”. the minute i start “fixin’ to” do anything, i’m out for good. i think i’m heading to the beach.

what are your speech patterns influenced by? take the test here and let me know in the comments section. here’s mine…
