grace

i heard john piper speak tonight – amazing! who would have thought that an old pasty white guy could be so with it… that guy is passionate about grace, and about spreading that gospel. he talked from romans 4, “he who lives by the law shall be judged by the law.” something that really made me think was his paraphrase, which was this: if we live according to the law, we will be judged according to the law. and when judged by the law, none of us can stand. but there’s a new law in town – the law of grace. when we live by the law of grace, we will be judged by that law. incredible, isn’t it?

all through the bible God exhibits grace. even when he doled out the law! every time israel broke the law, he could have wiped them out, and rightfully so! but the purpose of the law was not to show man how to get to heaven; the purpose was to show man he couldn’t get there! God is not out to get us! He has made every effort to make that grace available to us! there is no sin quota! grace carries us as far as Christ’s sacrifice. grace is a love that stoops down.
