folly of idolatry

a man cuts down a tree; with part of the wood he fashions an idol. the rest of the tree becomes his firewood; does he not remember that he fashioned his god with his own bare hands, when he is prostrate before it, in worship? his god is unable to deliver himself, much less anyone else.

what am i subject to? what is my false god? what do i fashion with my hands that is the object of my greatest passion? may my passion for God be stronger than all else.
